The station

Every song comes with a story

Wandering Radio is an internet radio station for the wanderer and adventurer in all of us, whether you’re on the road or just dreaming about it. Every song is hand-picked by a full-time traveler.

No algorithm, no endless loop of the same twenty songs. Just Americana, folk, bluegrass, indie and the occasional detour into soul and jazz, the music that’s ridden along with us for thousands of miles. Every show has its own feel, from easy mornings on The Slow Lane to late nights on Where the Road Goes Quiet.

How it started

A hike past an old radio station

The idea hit me on a hike in Port Townsend, Washington, when I walked past an old radio station at Fort Worden. It took me right back to the college radio show I used to host.

I’d made a podcast before, but I wanted something more personal: music and stories from the road, shared the way radio used to feel. Wandering Radio is that idea, on the air. The next step is The Highway Sound, a show where each episode pairs a theme with music and a story from the road.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by.”

Robert Frost

Life on the road

Ten years, three rigs

I’ve been traveling full-time across the U.S. since 2016. A lot has changed since then, but the road and the music never stopped.

Along the way I chase national parks, good campgrounds, local breweries and live music, and share what I learn on the Stories page.

I pick the music, voice the station and write the stories. When I’m not on the air, I’m a graphic designer and voiceover artist with more than 15 years in the business.
